FAQ

How do I make a reservation?

We have prepared an Online Reservation Form which you can use to send us your request directly. We would also gladly accept your request via e-mail or over the phone. Thereupon, we will send you an offer and a registration form for the desired stay. If you accept our offer, please complete the form with your personal data and signature and return it to us via e-mail, fax or by mail. You will then receive confirmation of your reservation from us.

How are the apartments furnished?

All apartments come with a fully equipped kitchen or kitchenette featuring a cooking facility, a refrigerator, an electric kettle and coffee maker as well as cutlery and crockery. Towels and bedlinen are provided; you will find the beds freshly made upon arrival. Every unit is equipped with a hairdryer.

Do I need to bring bed linens and towels with me?

All units are fully outfitted for your stay. Sufficient bedlinen and towels will be supplied according to the number of guests and the length of your stay. Depending on the length of your stay, a change of bedlinen/towels can be booked additionally.

Can I book additional cleaning service?

Especially with regard to longer stays, additional changes of bedlinen and towels and/or interim cleaning service can be arranged as per individual agreement. We will schedule this service according to your wishes – please contact us a couple of days in advance. Prices depend on the size of the apartment and the number of guests.

How do I get there?

From the airport, you can reach Cologne central station by regional train within 15 min in direct connection. Check out connections with KVB (Cologne public transport).
It’s only a 10-12 min walk (900 m) from Cologne central station to statthaus – about 4 min with a taxi. Alternatively, you could go on by underground line #5 to stop “Apellhofplatz” (1 stop, from there about 500 m to statthaus on foot).

Are there car parking facilities?

Parking in front of the house and in the neighboring streets is possible free of charge on weekdays between 11 pm and 9 am and on sundays. During the day, parking tickets are available at the cost of  EUR 1 /20 min for a maximum duration of 4 hours.
The indoor parking garage Contipark (Alte Wallgasse/Magnusstr.) can be reached within 5 min on foot (450m). With tickets of 9EUR/24h it is the least costly in the closer vicinity.
The indoor parking garage Im Klapperhof 13 is a little  closer and can be reached within 3 minutes on foot (280 m). With 14EUR/24h it is much more costly.
Within the area Venloer Straße, Hans-Böckler-Platz, Innere Kanalstraße and Kreutzerstraße (about 1.4 km/15 min to statthaus on foot), parking on the street is possible free of charge.

When do I check in/check out?

Arrival is possible anytime as per individual agreement – please contact us beforehand, so we can make the necessary arrangements. If not appointed differently, checkout is usually in the morning before 11 am. Depending on the booking situation and cleaning schedule, a different checkout time may be agreed upon. In case staying on longer is not possible, you are welcome to deposit your luggage in our office on the ground floor (only on weekdays until closing time at 4 pm/16:00 h).

How/where do I get the keys?

In case of arrival weekdays between 10 am and 4:30 pm, you will receive the key to your apartment directly from us in our office on the ground floor. Also, you can leave your key with us upon checking out Monday to Friday within office hours. Should you check out on a weekend or after office hours, please put the key in our letterbox downstairs in the hallway (the one in the middle labelled “statthaus”) or just leave it on the table in the apartment. Please make sure you pull the door closed upon moving out in any case.

Can I arrive late in the evening?

Arrival is possible anytime. If you arrive during the weekend or on a weekday after office hours (after 4 pm) we will deposit the key to your flat in the statthaus key locker outside the main entrance.

How do I use the statthaus key locker?

Here you can download the key locker manual as PDF. Should you require the key locker, we will provide you with your own personal 4-digit access code beforehand.

Is there an elevator?

The house was built around 1860, and like most of Cologne’s listed buildings from that time period it does not feature an elevator. Due to lack of space and also for reasons of structural fire protection, the installation of one as a later improvement has proved impossible.

May I have guests stay with me in the apartment?

The daily overnight price is calculated according to the number of nights and the number of guests. Please understand that lodging additional persons in a reserved apartment is only possible at an additional cost. Please contact us if such a need arises.

How do I pay?

Payment can be made beforehand either via bank transfer or PayPal* or alternatively in cash upon arrival. EC* or Credit card* payment is possible in our office on the ground floor or online via SIX Payment Services (secure payment link)*.

We ask that you please realize that there are exceptions, e.g. heavily frequented trade fair dates, for which we will insist upon advance payment of the full sum in order to guarantee the reservation. Thank you for your understanding.

Will I receive an invoice indicating V.A.T.?

Yes. Upon confirming our offer, you will receive your booking Confirmation and an Invoice indicating V.A.T. from us, accordingly.

Why no fixed price-rates?

Prices per night/per month depend on the size of the apartment, the length of your stay and the number of guests as well as extra services provided and may vary depending on the date. The daily/monthly price given is the final price.

Since December 2014 the City of Cologne charges a City Tax (bed tax), which is to be paid additionally. If your stay is longer than 2 months, the tax does not apply. If yours is a business trip, you can avoid Cologne City Tax by filling in the necessary forms for business travelers, which we will provide.

Is the City Tax (bed tax) of the City of Cologne included in the price?

The overall price of your reservation does not include Cologne City Tax (bed tax). For sojourns of 2 months or shorter the City of Cologne imposes a fee of 5% on the total amount for lodging (including V.A.T.). This additional fee is to be paid by the guest at arrival time. If required verification from the City of Cologne is provided, business expenses are exempt. My stay in Cologne is occupationally mandatory. Must I still pay the City Tax (bed tax)?

No, if required verification from the City of Cologne is provided, business expenses are exempt.

Is it possible to change my reservation?

Changes in your reservation that are related to either the length of your stay or the number of guests are generally possible but are subject to certain restrictions at times of heavily frequented trade fairs. Depending upon the change you request, there may also be a modification or adjustment in the daily price.

How can I cancel my reservation?

If you need to cancel your reservation, please contact us directly by telephone or via e-mail. Please take notice of our cancellation policy.

Is smoking allowed?

All statthaus apartments are strictly non-smoking accommodations. Also, for reasons of fire protection, we must ask you not to smoke in the hallway, either.

Guests of apartments 3 and 8 may smoke outside on the balcony or on the loggia, respectively. In case guests smoke indoors anyhow, an extra cleaning fee of up to 250 € will be charged according to the extent of the cleaning time and effort.

Are pets allowed?

Our apartments don’t very well accommodate pets. Please contact us if necessary.

Where do I find washer and dryer?

The common laundry in the basement is available to all guests. It features a coin-operated washer and dryer as well as laundry racks and some detergent. You will find the entrance in the ground floor hallway opposite the waste separation unit. You may open the basement door and the door to waste disposal with your apartment key.

Is there a storage space for bikes in the house?

No, unfortunately statthaus does not offer storage space for bikes. The narrow staircase does not allow for bikes to be taken upstairs into the apartments or down into the cellar.

Where do I dispose of the waste?

The common waste disposal unit is in the ground floor hallway opposite the door to the basement. Your apartment key fits the door. Here you will find the waste bin and separate containers for returnable bottles, paper and plastics recycling.
Glass bottles can alternatively be disposed of at the municipal recycling container across the park.
